Rebecca Lobo eats her roommate's last bag of Fritos and swallows a diet pill with the rest of her water.

She checks her email and there is only one message, from Professor Alvin. He has canceled class on Monday because of a "family emergency." She thinks Professor Alvin must have a dying relative or is sort of irresponsible, because he cancels class a lot for this reason. She has never had a class that was canceled more often.

Some of her classmates complain about it. "I'm paying 680 dollars a credit hour for this shit," they say.

Rebecca Lobo doesn't mind because she is on an athletic scholarship, but she is always disappointed, because she likes to talk about poetry.

She is usually a little relieved that she will not have to see Professor Alvin, though. The less she sees him, the less likely she is to say something in class that makes her seem stupid, she thinks.

Rebecca Lobo thinks about Ray Allen. She thinks about his penis and is turned on. She touches herself for a while. She thinks this says everything that ever needs to be said about love and sex and attraction and whatever, but she can't explain how.

She thinks, I should really get started on that econ paper.

She opens Microsoft Word and watches the cursor blink.
